Rally master Walter Rohrl might’ve won his two World Rally championships in the early eighties but, as this video attests, he’s as ‘on it’ as ever.

MOTOR rode shotgun with Rohrl in a 911 Turbo S on the Cayenne Turbo S and GTS launch in Sweden last week, where temperatures dropped to as low as minus 20.

With ESP all the way off and setting his wristwatch to time himself, Rohrl deftly slid the 412kW, all-wheel drive 911 Turbo S in a way that defied its rear-engine layout.

Rohrl, 67, says the trick to driving fast on ice and snow is to enter the corner sideways – rather than trying to get the car sideways in the corner, where you’ll likely get more understeer than oversteer. And end up faceplanting a snow bank.

With gentle prods of the throttle you can see Rohrl expertly exploiting the 911 Turbo S’s lowdown torque, 700Nm from just 2100rpm.

We saw 150km/h on the speedo during our ride. Yes, this could’ve just been a spike in wheel speed, but there was no doubting, he was going seriously fast and, most of the time, one handed. Nuts.

And, thanks to MOTOR’s camera, now it’s your turn.

2015 PORSCHE 911 TURBO S: 3.8-litre twin-turbo flat-six, 412kW, 700Nm (2100-4250rpm), 750Nm on “overboost”, 1605kg, all-wheel drive, all-wheel steering, 0-100km/h in 3.1sec, v-max 318km/h, $444,900 (Australia)
