It seems 1000kW hypercars are like buses; you wait ages for one, then two show up at once.

Hot on the heels of the new Bugatti Chiron comes the production version of the Koenigsegg Regera, a radically different take on the hybrid hypercar theme from those crazy Swedes.

First unveiled in concept from at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show, the production Regera is said to have undergone over 3000 changes during its 12-month development program.

Koenigsegg -Regera -profilePowering the Regera is Koenigsegg’s familiar 5.0-litre twin-turbo V8, however here it’s twinned with an 800-volt, 4.5kWh battery pack to produce in excess of 1100kW/2000Nm.

The claimed performance figures are just silly: 0-100km/h in 2.8sec; 0-200km/h in 6.6sec; 0-300km/h in 10.9sec and an estimated 0-400km/h time of 20sec. Perhaps most ludicrous of all is the rolling 150-250km/h time of just 3.9sec.

Uniquely, the Regera features no conventional gearbox, rather its single-gear direct drive system uses “a clutch-slip mechanism that uses the hydraulic coupling at medium/high speeds during fast acceleration”.

Koenigsegg -Agera -FinalAlso unveiled at Geneva is Koenigsegg’s Agera ‘Final’. Just three will be built to celebrate the end of Agera production, which has been Koenigsegg’s fastest-selling model ever.

Each have been pre-sold and each will be bespoke, with the first Final – dubbed “One of 1” due to its unique specification – featuring a raft of custom bodywork as well as the 1000kW/1371Nm ‘MegaWatt’ engine from the Koenigsegg One:1.

The May 2016 issue of MOTOR will feature a first drive of the Koenigsegg Regera, on-sale April 7.
