Only 150 will make production, but they’ll each have 600kW

It’s been eight years since Shelby originally announced the F-150 Super Snake, though back then it was just a concept. Now it’s real.

It’ll be a street-oriented version of the previously developed Shelby F-150, and only 150 of them will be sold, but they’ll each have a supercharged 5.0-litre V8 producing 600kW.

Customers will be able to choose whether they want a two-wheel or four-wheel drive version.

“With the tremendous demand for our off-road focused Shelby F-150, fans of the classic Ford Lightning and our 2009 Shelby F-150 Super Snake have clamored for a new generation muscle truck from Shelby,” CEO of Shelby American Joe Conway says.

“One of our goals was to offer the truck in limited numbers to preserve exclusivity and potential collectability.”

Changes in styling when compared to its offroading counterpart include a lower and chunkier body kit, bigger wheels, and the obvious extra Super Snake badging.

Shelby American vice-president of operations Vince LaViolette says the truck has had handling tweaks to take it a few more levels above the standard Ford F-150.

“Lessons learned building the Ford Mustang-based Shelby Super Snake muscle car and the Shelby F-150 were applied to create this incredible street truck,” LaViolette says.

“True to Carroll Shelby’s philosophy, it has more power, more sound, more styling and more handling prowess.”

Though it’s only just been released, it wouldn’t surprise us to find out that all 150 examples are spoken for, as happened with Australia’s own W1.

With a price tag of $96,880 USD ($130,000 AUD), good luck getting one over here.
