Having only travelled 9215km, this Pug could be one of the tidiest privately-owned examples of a 205 GTi in the world.

And that means it commands a hefty price tag when it’s time to swap hands. A price tag of £38,480, or $63,459 to us.

Peugeot 205 GTi side profile.jpgThis 1.9-litre-engined GTi was originally offered as a competition prize by Peugeot and clothing retailer Grattan in the UK, and was won by a woman who was unable to drive.

Silverstone Auctions, the house in charge of this sale, says it was then held onto by the winner and her husband, and only driven rarely, which has led to its incredibly low mileage.

Peugeot 205 GTi engineIn late 2012, the car was then sold to its next owner, a Peugeot enthusiast and the same person who brought it up for sale at Silverstone.

This owner is said to have a “small collection of prize-winning 205 GTI models”, which has led to the car ebing well cared for, though not restored at all.

Peugeot 205 GTi interior“The car is not portrayed as being in ‘concours condition’ - these examples are often extensively restored - and certainly, it could be with just the minimum of work, but is authentic and unfettered, even down to its original factory-fitted distributor bag still being in place!” Silverstone’s listing for the car says.

Peugeot 205 GTi rearWhile $63K might seem steep to some, the 205’s cult status and this example’s history and originality (it’s also got a similar number plate to the one used in press material upon the car’s launch) have likely amplified the price.

Still, this sale isn’t as surprising as it would otherwise have been, as last year Silverstone oversaw the sale of another low-miler 205 GTi for £31,625, (AUD $52,173).

Hold onto your 205 GTis, ladies and gentlemen.
