2018 Porsche 911 Carrera T revealed

The next Porsche Carrera T has been announced with a manual gearbox and the addition of rear-wheel steering.

Porsche says the new Carrera T was inspired by the 911 T of 1968, so it weighs less than the Carrera. But only by 20kg.

It also has shorter gearing and a shorter rear axle ratio, and it now has rear-axle steering as an option, something the standard Carrera doesn’t get.

Power output is the same as the regular Carrera at 272kW/450Nm, but the lighter weight means the Carrera T will sprint to 100km/h in a claimed 4.5 seconds, or 4.2 if buyers choose to option the PDK dual-clutch auto.

Both transmissions will get the car to a top speed of “over 290km/h.”

The Carrera T also scores Porsche’s PASM sports chassis as standard, as well as its Sport Chrono Package.

Porsche adds that “The rear window and rear side windows are made from lightweight glass and the door trims feature opening loops.

“The sound absorption has been largely reduced. The rear seats have been omitted along with the Porsche Communication Management (PCM), though both are still available on request at no additional cost.”

Optional for the first time on a Carrera T is a pair of full bucket seats, though the standard Sport-Tex can be optioned with stitching to match the car’s exterior.

In Europe and the US, the Porsche Carrera T can be ordered immediately, though won’t be ready until January 2018. Australia’s timing for delivery is yet to be confirmed.
