On the 40th anniversary of the 1977 1-2 victory by Allan Moffat and Colin Bond, Prodrive has decked out Mark Winterbottom’s number 5 car with the livery from that legendary XC.

Ditching the Bottle-O’s green livery, the car now sports a mostly white covering with the iconic red and blue stripes down the sides and across the bonnet.

Mark-Winterbottom.jpg“It’s our absolute honour and privilege to recognise the 40th anniversary of the greatest Ford victory at Bathurst and the legendary Allan Moffat,” Prodrive said in a statement.

At the reveal, the FG-X Falcon Supercar was displayed next to a replica of the XC Moffat drove in ’77.

Winterbottom told Supercars that he’s looking forward to doing the livery justice, but that it adds a little extra pressure to perform well on the day.

“That moment in 1977 was iconic, we all know it, and to run not only the colours but have Allan’s blessing and support behind it is pretty cool,” he said.

“That means the most. He’s a legend to both Dean and myself so to have his support is really special.

Alan-Moffat-1977-tribute-XB-Falcon.jpg“He loves the livery, he’s pretty proud of his one. The ’77 car was probably his most memorable car, so to see our car in the livery he got a bit emotional.

“We feel the pressure to live up to the colours and the history. It’s a great feeling, but it does add a bit more pressure to perform.”

Prodrive currently sits third on the Supercars leaderboard behind DJR Team Penske in first and Holden Racing Team in second.
