Nissan’s sister company Infiniti has revealed the newest addition to its range, the updated Infiniti QX80 SUV.
With a 5.6-litre atmo V8 under the bonnet, the full-sized luxury SUV has a relatively impressive output of 298kW and 560Nm, though its kerb weight (ranging from 2574kg to 2764kg depending on spec) relegates its 0-100km/h time to 7.5 seconds.
Not that anyone’s shopping for a luxury SUV based on its 0-100km/h time. A 7-speed automatic gearbox allows power to reach either the rear wheels or all four, depending on customer preferences.
Infiniti senior vice president of global design Alfonso Albaisa says the designers took cues from the previous, more rounded design, and turned it into what they see as ‘the ultimate expression of modern luxury SUV design.’
“Infiniti’s design DNA has been scaled up for our largest SUV. The QX80 combines its commanding new presence with powerful muscularity and enhanced horizontal movement.
“Our designers raised the visual height of our iconic ‘double-arch’ grille and signature headlamps, striking an unrivalled on-road premium tonality.”
“Stepping inside, the cabin changes bring a greater sense of artistry in the treatment of quilted leathers and high-quality, hand-crafted elements, while also offering new technologies.
“The result is a contemporary, inclusive environment with roots in luxury air travel.”
The rear (or middle with rear seats installed) passengers have arguably the best level of luxury at hand, with separate screens for each passenger, which can be connected to including portable Blu-ray and DVD players, games consoles, smartphones, tablets, USB memory sticks and video cameras.
Pricing and availability for the QX80 in Australia is not yet confirmed.
