If you want a good seat for the show put on by the new Chevrolet Corvette ZR1, you’re in luck. There’s now a convertible version.

Just two weeks after the new 2019 ZR1’s reveal, Chevrolet has already unveiled a drop-top version at the 2017 LA Motor Show.

The C7 Corvette ZR1 Convertible will have the same 563kW and 969Nm that the Coupe puts out, supplied by the same supercharged 6.2-litre supercharged LT5 V8.

Corvette executive chief engineer Tadge Juechter says the ZR1 Convertible doesn’t lose much in the way of performance, either, claiming it can still run a 0-60mph (0-97km/h) in under three seconds if optioned with the auto ‘box.

“The ZR1 convertible is a no-compromise supercar,” says Juechter.

2019-Chevrolet-Corvette-ZR1-Convertible-aerial.jpg“Thanks to the strong structure, the suspension tuning between coupe and convertible models is identical, meaning the ZR1 convertible offers the same benchmark performance, including a top speed of over 200mph [341km/h].”

The ZTK Performance Package, which is also available on the Coupe, adds an adjustable rear wing, a front splitter with carbon-fibre end caps, Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres, plus chassis and suspension tuning.

In addition to the ‘Vette Convertible’s debut, Chevrolet has announced a new exhaust system which Chevrolet says give the ZR1 “the most aggressive sound ever for a production Corvette.”

2019-Chevrolet-Corvette-ZR1-Convertible-front.jpgIt features four modes, ranging from ‘Stealth’, which is said to be quieter than a Corvette Z06, to ‘Track’ mode which allows “virtually unrestricted exhaust flow.”

With no roof, you’ll certainly be able to tell the difference.
