The upcoming Geneva Motor Show is shaping up to be just as big as last year, with a new model from Italdesign now added to the list of reveals to watch.

The design house, which undertakes the unusual task of manufacturing and branding its own works, was created 50 years ago by legendary designer Giorgetto Giugiaro and Aldo Mantovani.

Credited with designing iconic and/or beautiful vehicles such as the original VW Golf, the Lotus Esprit, and the DeLorean DMC-12, the company also build its own vehicle, the low-volume Zerouno.

Now, with the roadster on the way, Italdesign will have two models to wear its badge.

The Zerouno was limited to five units built by the end of 2017, so we expect to see the company follow a similar path of exclusivity for the topless version.

We also expect it to share the coupe’s Lamborghini Huracan LP610-4-derived drivetrain, with 449kW and 560Nm launching it to 100km/h in the mid-3s range. The coupe runs 3.2s.

Italdesign CEO Jörg Astalosch says the brand will continue to grow and innovate, building on the success of its half-century so far.

“We are proud of what we have achieved in these fifty years,” says Astalosch.

“Italdesign has always stood out for its ability to dare, to be ahead of its time and anticipate the industry’s needs, working daily to raise the bar of quality standards.

“If we look at the many prototypes we are proud to have at our Moncalieri headquarters which were inspirational for many successful projects for our customers.

“This attitude for innovation… is evident even after many decades”.
